Smiling into the New Year

This photo of Z and friends does bring a smile to my face, which hasn't been too smiley today, really. Trying to keep a positive attitude, but whining to myself because it's pouring rain, I took on too much work, and I have a cold. Warning: pity party underway.

We went down to So Cal for Christmas. We visited with friends and family, including the world's most wonderful granddaughter. I managed to do three of the four runs I'd promised myself--the last one got knocked out by the cold I contracted. It was good to get out of town, I have to say. Z and I spent some time looking back at 2007 and then ahead to 2008 and making lists of high- and low-lights. My definite 2007 highlight was running a total of more than 860 miles, which was the greatest total for me since 1998.

For next year my goal is to keep on going. Happy New Year to all of us!

Congratulations on the miles, and best wishes for the miles in 2008 to include that beautiful marathon.

What am I meant to learn from the challenges being thrown at me these days? That I am strong. That I am loved. That life goes on and can be good. My favorite nephew congratulated me for making lemonade when I'd been handed lemons--not sure his belief about me is justified, but I deeply appreciate the notion. Out & Back

This photo represents the cipher of the day--it means "a short out-and-back run in the dead dark of the dawn." I'm trying to get in as much mileage as possible before Christmas ever for beautiful Burbank. Z and I are going to visit the kids--the 2008 version of over the river and through the woods. He's driving; I'm going into work for a while and then flying later. I'll miss my computer. I realize that in this blog I'd like to take some time to look back and then look ahead, but also know that time for doing that may be limited in the remaining eight days of 2008.
